When the Wailing Death beset Neverwinter in the Year of Wild Magic (340 NR, 1372 DR), Lord Nasher Alagondar commissioned an academy to train adventurers who might be able to help save the city. The academy was subject to a vicious assault just a few months later. The events that followed, including a Luskan invasion that laid waste to much of the city, kept repairs from the academy from becoming a top priority for several years. Once it did reopen, however, it became well known across the Sword Coast. Schools for adventurers are, of course, rare (some might even say a contradiction in terms). It shut down again when Mount Hotenow erupted in the Year of Knowledge Unearthed (419 NR, 1451 DR) and the Chasm opened up nearby. Though the academy itself remains standing, it is a ruin in part of the city that remains overrun by monsters.
